Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation Biological Evaluations

EPG is working with the Pima County Regional Flood Control District to revise its Riparian Habitat Mitigation Standards and Implementation Guidelines. In September 2005, the Board of Directors issued a new Floodplain Management Ordinance (Chapter 16.30, Watercourse and Riparian Habitat Protection and Mitigation Requirements, necessitated the revision and update of the 2001 Regulated Riparian Habitat Mitigation Standards and Implementation Guidelines.) The purpose of the guidelines is to minimize flood and erosion damage for all county residents, property, and infrastructure; and to preserve riparian vegetation along watercourses and floodplains. EPG and the Flood Control District are working with a Mitigation Working Group organized by the District to facilitate the drafting of the new guidelines. Additionally, two studies are being conducted to aid in the revision of the standards and guidelines. One study will report to the Group on the effectiveness of the existing measures, the other, on mitigation banking. Once preliminary guidelines have been developed, they will be presented to the public. The public will be invited to comment on the proposed guidelines, and their comments will be incorporated into the draft that will be presented to the Board of Supervisors for adoption.
