Higley Park Commons Commercial Center

Higley Park Commons Commercial Center is a 30-acre commercial development located on the Southeast corner of the San Tan Freeway and Higley Road in the Town of Gilbert (T.O.G.), Arizona. The design required using the T.O.G. “Gateway Overlay Guidelines” for specific planting species, hardscape themes, and lighting standards.

In conjunction with Higley Park Commons, the design team was also working on the adjacent residential development (Higley Park). This design effort required creating connection points and gateways between both developments.

Outdoor gathering areas were designed with specialty pavement (e.g., colored concrete, concrete pavers) as well as crosswalk locations and mid-block crossings to create and define distinctive pedestrian pathways. These areas were shaded with tree bosques using large box trees; and 20-foot date palms were used to accent and “frame” gateway nodes as a capturing view into the project. The project incorporated native, low water-use plants and large box trees. The landscape architects designed and coordinated multiple conceptual designs with the client, design team, and the T.O.G. during the preliminary site plan approval process. Additionally, the design team prepared the schematic, design development and construction documents, and technical specifications for the project, as well as providing construction administration services.
