San Tan Mountains Regional Park Master Plan and Environmental Assessment

EPG prepared the master plan and environmental assessment for the San Tan Mountains Regional Park. This 10,198-acre Maricopa County regional park is located near the Town of Queen Creek in Pinal County and is managed by Maricopa County under a cooperative agreement with Pinal County and the U.S Department of Interior - BLM. The master plan was prepared through a joint effort between Maricopa County, Pinal County, the Town of Gilbert, City of Chandler, City of Mesa, and the Town of Queen Creek (the Joint Planning Committee). Preparation of the master plan included the identification of goals and objectives for the project, extensive site inventory and analysis through the development of a GIS database, opportunity and constraints identification, and development of master plan alternatives and a preferred master plan. In addition to facilitation of the project with the Joint Planning Committee, the planning process incorporated opportunities for public review and comment at each major step through regular meetings with a stakeholder advisory group, five public open house meetings, a project website, newsletters, press news releases, and comment forms. Since a majority of the land in the park is owned by the BLM, a comprehensive environmental assessment was also prepared in conjunction with the master plan.
