Sonoran Solar Project – Arizona
In Maricopa County, Arizona, approval is being sought to construct and operate an electrical generating facility with a nominal capacity of 375 MW using concentrated solar thermal power. The approximate 4,000 acres of land needed to develop the project, including related facilities, consists of public land administered by the BLM. An application to the BLM requesting a right-of-way to construct the project and related facilities was submitted by NextEra (Applicant). EPG prepared an Environmental Critical Issues Analysis for the project to identify potential biological, cultural, land use, mineral, visual, and water resource issues associated with developing this solar resource area. In addition, EPG assisted NextEra with the preparation of a Plan of Development (POD) and additional data requirements associated with the POD, which have been submitted to the BLM. EPG is assisting NextEra with various permitting processes, as well as completing technical studies associated with the preparation of a Draft and Final EIS. EPG also will serve as lead to assist NextEra obtain a CEC designating approval of the Arizona Corporation Commission to construct the power plant and associated electric transmission line and related facilities.
