The Queen Creek Town Center Design Concept Report (DCR) is a continuation of the Town of Queen Creek’s efforts to provide direction and guidance for the development and redevelopment of the downtown area as identified in their Town Center Plan (TCP). The TCP discusses the importance of developing a unique Town Center character, which reinforces the key planning directives intended to enforce a unified theme of the entire community. The unifying themes the Town has sought to preserve are its historic rural character of open spaces, homesteads, its agricultural base, and equestrian activities. EPG was responsible for the development of design concepts for the streetscape and pedestrian corridor areas within the Town of Queen Creek’s downtown area.
EPG developed streetscape concepts that built upon the ideas, elements, and recommendations included in the TCP. The theme developed for the streetscape created interplay between both the historic and progressive growth characteristics of Queen Creek. Specified streetscape components, replication of paving patterns, street trees, site furnishings, street and pedestrian lighting, landscaping, and sculptural elements will be used to provide visual continuity along the roadway and within this commercial corridor. Materials selected for use within the streetscape will reinforce the historical theme, and yet embrace and demonstrate the commitment to quality growth desired by the Town’s leaders. EPG also developed conceptual plans for primary commercial, pedestrian, and special event activity areas within the downtown area, such as plazas, intersection nodes, and a community park.
The overall streetscape design lends itself to a phased implementation. This approach will accommodate future growth and development of the Town Center area over time. The primary streetscape elements are located within the proposed Town right-of-way, which enables the Town to move ahead with design and construction of these elements, as funding permits. As future development occurs, the design can be expanded to incorporate and respond to these changing conditions.
The DCR serves as a basis for design and production of construction documents for the initial streetscape treatments. |
