Southwest Las Vegas Valley 138kV and Substation Siting Study

EPG was retained by Nevada Power to conduct studies to site and construct two new 138kV substations and associated 138kV transmission lines to connect the new substations with Nevada Power’s existing electrical system. EPG facilitated the evaluation of environmental, public input, engineering, cost, right-of-way, and permitting factors for determining the preferred locations for these facilities. As a part of the siting effort, EPG developed siting criteria and identified resource sensitivity for land use, visual, biological, and cultural resources. We also facilitated the formation of a community working group consisting of representatives from local government, citizens and homeowners associations, and major landowners, who provided input on local issues within the project area. In addition to the community working group, public meetings were held at key points in the project. Fact sheets/newsletters were mailed to notify citizens of the project and public meetings. Based on the studies and community working group/public’s input, several alternative route segments were identified, and a preferred route was selected that met the needs of the project while minimizing impacts to the community.
