Consolidated Canal Paseo Master Plan & Design Guidelines

The City of Chandler identified the Consolidated Canal as a principal element of the City’s overall recreational and alternative transportation system. Mr. Scott Peters (EPG) took the lead in preparing the Master Plan and assisted in preparing the design guidelines. He also was involved in the development of construction documents for Phase 1. The 6.5-mile multi-use equestrian/pedestrian corridor along the Consolidated Canal features a landscaped, continuous multi-use path and equestrian trail system bordered by trail-heads; seating and rest areas; neighborhood parks; pedestrian and vehicular crossings; linkages tying into the nearby regional, community, and neighborhood parks; interpretive and directional signing; park theming; and the integration of public art into site design. In addition to the features of the Paseo itself, the plan and guidelines also address the historical and cultural character of the area, the character of future development along the canal, and the preservation of visual open space. The project was awarded the Valley Forward Association’s Environmental Excellence Award of Merit.
